Japan - EU Regulatory Reform Dialogue
On the 12th of March 2009, a Fiscal Year 2008 Japan - EU Regulatory Reform Dialogue was held in Brussels.
The meeting was co-chaired by the Director-General level offical of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs who led the Japanese delegation and the deputy Director General of the External Relations Directorate General of the European Commission.
The meeting discussed Japan's proposal for regulatory reform of the EU focusing on its priority areas which includes, movement of people, environment, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, food safety and agriculture and fishery products.
Japan's chairperson appreciated the EU's efforts to improve its regulations in the fields of accounting standards, intellectual property rights, work and residence permits and food safety and requested the EU to accelerate its efforts to tackle remaining regulatory issues.
